    Cars of Japan 2014

Hey all, just got back form my Japan trip. Been to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Numazu, Hakone and Nagahama. Saw heaps of cars in that time, took photos of lots, missed lots but had a great time.

Here's some of what i saw.

After arriving i got straight on a train to go meet my mate who was waiting the other side of Tokyo for me. He just got an R35 GT-R so at least it was easy to spot him outside the station. We went straight to Toyota MegaWeb in Tokyo from there.

    Toyota 88 C-V

    Super GT Lexus

    Gazoo Racing LFA and 86

    D1GP cars

Next door to Toyota Mega Web was a historic car section. Ticked off a number of classic Japanese cars i've wanted to see in the flesh. Best bit was there was no ropes around these despite them being genuine and worth millions. Have now touched Toyota 2000GT, Mazda Cosmo Sport, genuine Hakosuka GT-R and a 432 Fairlady Z (look it up if you haven't heard of it)

One of very few cars i saw in Japan that didn't look as though it has just been detailed, Evo 7

Really wanted to see what was under this, looks like a classic

Rare even in japan, 4 door DC2

    Very popular cars, Cappuccino

Just up the road from my mate's house, this NSX

Some little subaru kei car thing

Special mention to this FD i saw in Yokohama for A having some crazy japanese kit, and B having an RZ sticker, even though the RZ was never released in silver

"You don't feel the speed, in a way. You just don't feel the speed. The car is so stable and so comfortable.. unless you look at the speed gauge you don't realise you're going that fast. This is a good compromise between the sporting side and the comfort side. As I said, I think it is a super, super car." - Ayrton Senna

On the saturday night before i left, my mate took me up the touge to see what Initial D really looks like. It was too dark to accurately capture what this is like, but at the top of the mountain there is a carpark that fills up from about 11PM and then people use whatever they have to do runs up and down the mountain until the sun rises. Police don't care, the roads are not closed, and there are no speed cameras. I must also point out that speed camera's in japan don't actually take a photo until you are doing 40km/h over the limit. Very civilized.

When i say that people drive whatever i mean it, Chasers, RX8s, kei cars, GT-Rs, even saw a little kei van gunning it up and down the mountain. One of the maddest cars i saw was a gold FD RX7, stance and stretched tyres, scissor doors and converted to an SR20 with a Nismo 6spd manual. Insane. At one point i was in the passenger seat of the R35 in a queue of about 10 cars doing runs up and down the mountain flat out. For any car enthusiast i recommend getting yourself to one of these mountain nights. No bullshit, no posing, just people who enjoy driving out having fun. Doesn't matter what you drive or how it's modded, as you as you're having fun and pushing it.

    This kenmeri had a 300zx V6

Finally here is a study of what the car scene is like in Japan
