    2014 Formula 1 GP Monaco

Thanks to Bob we have a Monaco thread up! I like the history here but i hate the racing, pretty much whoever makes it into the first corner first wins short of accidents so it will all be around pit stops. Hard to call this one as it comes down the drivers skill so much more than car pace but seeing how comfortable the Mercedes are it's hard to see anyone but Ricciardo having much of a chance but who knows with the first lap, first corner.

Thanks to bob too for the session update. Completely forgot sessions on today and not tomorrow!

    First GP: 1950

Practice 2 result under wet weather conditions for first 35 minutes then drying. Kimi Raikkonen had an issue with the car, and i think Rosberg only ran on intermediate tyres hence his postion.

Interesting though about the number of laps taken by end of Q3. Dan might have a slight advantage on the S.Softs come race time.

Red Bull stayed in to get a clearer window on track so they ran less laps.

Controversy with Rosberg and Hamilton though with Rosberg brining out a yellow that affected Hamilton's final lap! Driving error though not a Schumacher Monaco special.

I was very impressed with Kvyat's driving after he removed his front wing in Q1, just put it behind him and got into Q3. Great driving.

The start will be key, then first corner then put strategy as it's virtually impossible to overtake.

Ericsson will start from the pits after investigation into his crash with Massa in Q1, Kvyat handed a reprimand for impeding Crashtor.

What a phenomenal race! I take back my criticism at the start completely.

No antics into the first corner like i expected but great racing the whole way, i really like these new regulations with the way they have actually started making the cars challenging to drive.

Off the line Rosberg held his advantage and never gave it up, Hamilton fought strongly but could not overtake. Vettel made an early exit only about 10 laps in as his gearbox decided it was better as a paperweight. Some more controvercy arose when Sutil caused a saftey car at Nouvelle Chicane after crashing into the barrier coming down the hill after the tunnel with the leaders passing hims stranded car moments later. Hamilton in 2nd asked the be pitted even though the safety car had not been annouced yet, the team did not pit him and as such he had slow behind his team mate the next lap as they pitted together. I think Hamilton is now seeing ghosts everywhere because he complained repeatedly on his team radio.

Both would fight it until about 10 laps to go when Hamilton reported having something in his eye and fell back from Rosberg to the tune of about 5 seconds and ended up only just holding off Ricciardo for 2nd.

Pleanty of non-finishers: Vettel, Perez, Crashtor, Kvyat, Gutierrez, Bottas, Vergne and Sutil all not making the 78th lap but HUGE NEWS! Marussia scored thier first points in F1!

Now we wait 2 weeks for Canada but i think between them is Mugello for the MotoGP which is a Monza/Spa/Monaco of the MotoGP world so check it out!

Sebastian. The whole field is faster than you.

Lewis has handled himself rather poorly over the weekend.
Mouthing off about how he is more hungry than Nico etc.
Then just turns to full sook mode following Q3.

    But this cracked me up.
“I don’t care about Ricciardo – how close am I to Nico?”
Next minute, Dan is running 3 sec a lap quicker and tapping at the back door.

So many passing moves by people in places that you would not expect at Monaco.
Then there was Kimi leave me alone I've run out of steering lock and looking for reverse.

I'm just so impressed with the way Daniel carries himself. Handles the camera well, and just gets on with the job.

    Yep. Great viewing.

Hahaha couldn't agree more, Rosberg has come out of this weekend smelling of roses and everyone is behind him, Hamilton has burnt everyone except his hardcore fans who would still support him even if he came into their house and shat on the carpet.

Ricciardo is great value for sure bob, he always is himself which is rare for anyone who makes it to a top team, let alone as quickly as he has done. He congratulates those who finish ahead of him and is genuinely thrilled with his results. Hamilton got 2nd and looked like he'd DNF'd, Rosberg won and looked like he'd rather have been in Namibia with his hand up a goat's arse. Really supporting Dan, not RBR but Dan haha.

Dammit, sounds like a great race. Being on earlies my poor tired little eyes can't stay open that late so I missed the second half. Might have to stream it tonight....

Gotta love Vettel giving the pit crew shit over the radio on his way back in, don't ya just want to smack him one sometimes?

    Kimi got his mojo back?

Daniel's driving was a great balance between feel and clinical > my respect.
