how do you get sponsorships for backyard project builds? or are they just paying you to put stickers on your car as a driving billboard?

    Haha mechpro ftw
Got the new welsh plugs and honing tool today so the plan this weekend is to hone the block and put new plugs in. What do you guys reckon the most effective way to clean the oil galleries and water jackets is?

    Edit: other than acid dipping.

If you've got the welsh plugs out, get a high pressure water blower, like a Gerney and blow it all out, its what I did recently to clean out the water galleries in the 5m. For the oil I suggest leaving them til the engine is back in the car, then doing a oil flush with some shitty cheap oil.

Easiest way to clean the water jackets is with a Karcher or similar high pressure washer.
If you've got the welsh plugs out, turn the block upside down on a engine stand and go for it.
Stick the nozzle into every single outlet you can find until fresh water pours out, the high pressure cleans out all the crap from every single spot possible.
The best way to clean oil galleys is just good old air pressure from a compressor, the little brushes the guys use for cleaning guns (a kind of bottle brush with a long stem) and some degreaser.
I use a air blower with a rubber tip, that way you can press it in tight to an oil hole and get full pressure through the galley, spray degreaser down the hole and scrub with a brush and blow it out with the air.
Only clean out the oil galleys like this if you have the whole engine stripped down though, you don't want that crap sitting in around the bearings and stuff........oh, and glue in brass welsh plugs with araldite or some other epoxy glue, don't use steel ones.....defies description why people use steel ones when brass cost the same

Itsmee cheers dude and ye always glue em in at work as well.

    Koz
I wouldn't risk flushing carbon coated oil thru my new bearings no offence

Dimii question about the honer I bought. They said it is around a 400 grit but the pack it came in just says 'medium grit' you reckon that will do? It's not a dummy brush style it's a three leg one.

It has to say a grit somewhere, should of gone to Bursons they have every grit available. But anyway medium should be fine doesn't go more than 800 anyway so yeah.
