I thought about a stock h22, but wouldn't that cost at least if not more than rebuilding the motor that's there? I wouldn't be going all out with a rebuild, just get it running relaibly with a bit less pressure this time. Anyone who's gone from h23 -> h22 how much did you spend?

Thanks Ian, it's been/is a very bumpy ride so far. After spending many thousands more than i expected to get it on the road, i got to drive it for one month before it blew up leaving me with many more thousands owed to it and nothing to drive... but hey, that's what happens sometimes i guess!

I could recommend an engine guy in Brisbane if you wanted to go that way... PLR at Brendale are excellent.

I can give you my spare H22 for $1000 and all you do is drop it in, ECU will be another $150 or so. It is plug and play if you have stock engine wiring but I am guessing it has all changed.

    BRING BACK THE FORUMS!

Nope - but they'll recommend you some places they tell everyone else to go to.
I had my head built by them and my block honed/bored.

Flipmods: Thanks for the offer, the car has autronic engine management, it has all it's own sensors etc so probably not as simple, but i'll certainly keep your offer in mind. What is the history of your spare h22?

Adrenalin: I've been in contact with PLR, they seem very switched on, thanks for the recommendation. If i do go ahead with building the h23, i'd probably just send them the motor by itself.

Making some small progress with the plan. Looking at collecting bits and pieces for the rebuild now. I'm going to buy the rebuild kit plus forged turbo pistons and maybe rods on Amercian Ebay. Is there a particular oversize on the pistons i should get (87.5,88 or 89mm)? Also on my shopping list is Arp head stud kit, cometic HG (size to match pistons), and an engine rebuild kit. I already have a VRS. Anything else i should look at? By the way, i'm not aiming for massive psi, probably around the same as what i was running before, about 9-10psi but i want it to be reliable...
