Hmm, thinking I'll try and get the scratches out of the big tighe cams and I'll fit them in again, also replace all the scratched rockers. The tune should still be fine for this new engine with the big cams fitted.

My question is, what can I do to stop it happening again? Will stiffer valve springs help or make the problem worse? Thanks guys .

the standard cams are nitrided, I would guess that when tighe's reground them, they didn't nitride them again.

To regain the OEM hardness, i'd get them nitrided.

I'd keep the stock cams in there. They are good for more than enough power.

I was just thinking along the lines, I already have them/tuned for them and they should add a little power without upping the boost. I might leave them off if they're going to be more trouble though.

ETA for the engine is by this weekend, so I'll go for the install on Sunday . Dropping off some exhaust valves this afternoon, apparently the spare head I gave them has 6 bent ones o.0.

Got a bit done today 0.o.

$60 from rockauto for a gates, timing belt, water pump and tensioner. Not bad.

Big cams go back in. Had a chat with the guy at the engine shop and he reckons the scratches in the lobes would have been caused by an oiling issue in the old head. That makes sense to me as only 2 of the lobes are badly damaged and the old head had a lot of burnt oil all over.

Adjustable cam gears back on. Intake manifold, crank pulley etc fitted.

Notice my fancy clutch alignment tool. Because the integra pilot bearing doesnt fit and can't be used I filled the gap on the tool with electrical tape .

    Gearbox fitted

This is still a bit of an issue. For some reason on this car the heater hose connection on the water pipe connection is way too close to the speed sensor, as a result the old hose was pretty chewed up. Anyone else has this issue on an S2?

hard to tell from the angle of your picture, here's mine. It's tight, but my hose doesn't get chewed. It's also worth noting we both have aftermarket speed sensors which are slightly different shapes than the stock sensor.

Some more updatey type stuff :0

Managed to fix that heater hose issue with a much tighter bend hose, a sleeve and a copper joiner. Doesn't look pretty but it will do the job.

    Jumble of hoses :0

    Brand new optima yellow top.

Around 8 meters total of 0 gauge power cabling

New oil drain for the turbo. Had to drop the braided hose because it was too inflexible and the joiners were massive. At least this one doesn't go round the world to get to the sump now

Second thermo fan installed now the oil drain isn't in the way. 12 inch this time, should increase the cooling by a fair bit .

    Getting there slowly :o

What the cable cost you per meter? Could you have got away with 2 or 4 gauge? Cant have been cheap!

Running 4 gauge atm, doesn't quite cut it. Was going to go 2 gauge but the 0 was only $5 more per metre.
