    Which car next

After finishing my current 3G i have got a bit of the modding bug!

probably the greatest frustration is that the 3G lude is one car that has very few bolt on mods and can be somewhat of a pain to get anything aftermarket for period.

So throwing up a few ideas of what i could be looking to pick up & because alot of you out there would likely be a bit more aware of what is possible with certain models i thought i would see what type of knowledge i could gain from you all.

The criteria i am thinking should be as follows

    a) Fairly cheaply - both to purchase and to work on.
    b) that has a wide selection of aftermarket dress up parts
    c) the performance of the car is easier to increase with direct bolt on mods & can be boosted alot easier than a 3G (Some of these come as a turbo..)
    d) is a solid and reliable platform for me to learn on that is easier than a prelude

I would like to stay Honda but in saying that i have owned & Nissan's, Volvo's, Mazda's, and enjoyed certain aspects of each as well.

Any input or advice would be appreciated and the purchase isn't likely to be until 2010 sometime - unless a real bargain comes up!

If you want bolt on mods go an S13. Ugly as all shit but you can get good power from them and if you bust it up you can buy another for about 5K.

fc rx-7, i'd have another, something that i couldn't say about any other car i've owned (with the exception of the 3g lude, i've had 4)

I have thought about these (S13 and Rx-7) and possibly a celica, but the shape i want (1992 onwards) probably strikes them out due to the fact i want something pretty cheap i guess....unless they can be imported cheap? I am on my third 3G myself PJF...just cant get them outta my system til i have a 'keeper'!

eg has a ridiculous following and even more parts. it is one of the few hondas which you can mod, and if you're careful about how/when and from whom you buy parts, almost sell the car later without making too much of a loss.

Out of that list, the Civic or an N14 Pulsar SSS. The SSS had absolutely no right to be as quick as it was with those specs.

Oh and by the way, the Ford Laser TX3 wasn't a Mazda 626 coupe, it was the same as a Familia. The MX6 was the same as the Ford Probe.

Civic is clear winner at the moment..I do have a soft spot for them and (dont laugh) its mainy due to those door handles! I first saw them and went WTF? Arent they meant to be on the inside instead? Anyway keep going guys....No love for the 626/TX3 or mirage/lancer?

Yeah i think i meant TX5 Brash - that was the same platform wasnt it?

Yeh TX5 was the same as the MX6 but still doesn't handle well. The TX3/Familia torque steer like buggery, and suffer from crazy high insurance pricing. A mate of mine was going to get a Familia, until he found that the cheapest quote he could get was for $3500. In two years you've bought the car again so it makes no sense.

The Mirage/Lancer twins make sence if you want to play with bodykits and stereos, but not if you want to go fast. Galant VR4 engines can be droppd in, but the chassis just can't handle the extra power. There's a show car in Adelaide with the plage NO GRIP with just such a swap. The truest custom plate ever.

E30 BMW has become very popular for young drivers in the past couple of years. You need to remember that they will set you back the same as most of the other cars you mention, but be 5 or so years older. Maintenance seems to be very hit or miss too - one guy at work has one and aside from the regular oil/filter/plug changes he's never had to do anything else. His best mate has one and spent $6k on replacing bits and pieces (things like water pump, lifters, just things that have worn out), just this calender year. They're both the same year and have similar kms.

If you want a Galant, get a VR4. The 2.0L turbo drives all wheels and there's a reason that fans of Titsusquishi's Evo series refer to the VR4 as Evolition 0. It's the car that started it all.

Depends on exactly what it is that you want. Many of the parts from earlier Evos (I through III) bolt straight on.
