    3inch Exhaust on a stock h22?

Hey guys I need you to vote whether you would go for a 3inch set up (after extractors) with a stock H22. Also if you could leave a comment saying why you voted a particular way

AFTER you guys have voted/commented I need you's to look at this: LINK

well the 3rd gen iv put a deposit on had a massive (i think 3") cannon on the back so 3" cannon and only other engine mod being K&N filter an a B20 beats 3inch with extractors and cat on h22a but blah, why not.

3 inch is too big, lose too much exhaust velocity

    Edit: looked at your link

those dyno graphs are a month apart in the middle of winter, not really reliable data

    ^^as said.

leave the 3inch pipes for the turbo boys.

i've heard either 2.25in or 2.5in is optimal?

2.25 is optimal iirc, but 2.5 isnt out of the question.

but the link is meant to put the whole

    "lose too much velocity"

    "lose too much back pressure"

    theory to rest.

Despite what I've heard, I have never once seen any sort of proof that you can lose power by changing to a larger exhaust. From reading SAE papers and textbooks, the general consensus is everything after the last merge collector is a restriction.
See, so im thinking, get the 'right' size extractors, then, go nuts.

im actually gnna do this. il go 3inch, with a tuned vafc2 and see what numbers i pull compared to the 2.25 or 2.5 tuned ppl

ok so you compared a stock set up to the 3inch right?

now try comparing stock with 2.25in with 2.5in with 3in

i think you'll find the optimal lies with either 2.25 or 2.5

i'd explain more but i think you can see where i'm going with this.

the point is the link doesn't prove anything, coz the dyno tests are a month apart, dyno calibrations could be out, air temp a couple of degrees colder an make a huge difference

Best test is a back to back test, same day, as quickly as possible

    hiru:

    Tuned 2.25" Vs Tuned 3"
    thats the last graph.

Im still sold on this idea.

even if it was temp diff or dyno readings.

how do you know which line is which (i havent read the thread properly)

comparing graphs it would appear that the 3in is the bolder one

    interesting.

rekn you could do back to back tests before and after the new exhaust is fitted?
