My brothers hand, in a running stream. He just put his hand in the river until the water flowed over his hand causing these cool ripples, then i told him to hold still while i got the camera within several inches of the water
The second one is just his fingertips being distorted by the water. The idea is the flash makes the water invisible so his fingers just look whack

These sorts of macro photos can be taken with ANY point and shoot camera. The small sensor found in these cameras means you can get a good depth of field in macro shots. Those photos were taken with a 1.2 megapixel Canan Powershot A100 (one of the first digital cameras!) I took over 3000 shots on it then the autofocus died. I now use a Canon G7, one of the best point and shoot cameras, truly and excellent value camera. I wouldn't mind a DSLR to play with but i can't justify the expense at the moment!

haha thats awesome! credit to you! I really like those pics as disturbing as they are they are so different!

Thanks for the idea regarding the flash and water. i will definitely try that out when i can. I really want to try and take a picture of a water droplet mid flight. I know its typical but i think it would be an interesting challenge.

heres a few more i took on the day i got the camera.

Sorry double post, the PA server is cracking the shits!

just commenting on my own photo: the red flower perhaps needs to have the blacks even further emphasized, i think the picture will benefit from some more contrast to really make it stand out!

You definitely should look into it. I got EVERYTHING we needed to get started including extra battery, two great lenses, SD card, extended warranty for under $1k. If you can live with second hand goods, half that amount. we got a basic dslr but the results are amazing!

I cant wait to take some of the VIC members out on a little cruise and take some shots!

Some others taken by my gf:

HmMm, as i said, a beginner like yourself, more so since i havent touched the 450, but from what ive read, the lenses mean everything! Dont buy the cheap nasty stuff. If you can get a great lense for your D60, you will defiantly get even better pictures.

Im looking for a wide angle lense. The fish eye pictures dont appeal to me as much.

haha i should rephrase that. i didnt mean cheap as in low quality. i should have stated it like this:

ANyone know where to get NIKKOR VR DX lenses at good prices? basically good quality lenses but someone who sells them at cheap rates. Ive noticed a lot of discreptancy between lense prices in retail outlets.

There grey imports, meaning they have no australian warranty with the manufacturer only with the shop.

However that doesnt mean its any lesser quality just might be a factor to consider.

Hmm that is a large factor to consider. I think I need to visit a few retail stores and try to get them to price match on these chaps. We're thinking of taking out camera/travel insurance on our gear anyway.

    Wheres the pics people!!!!!

I recently bought a Canon 450D twin lens kit, 4gb SD card, extended warranty, Manfrotto tripod and UV lens filter. Amazing machine but I'm no pro, although I have taken about 400 shots already I am only just getting used to certain settings. I'll have to grab some from home.

I have a couple here at work from a storm, I'll upload them soon.

    Btw, best tripod ever!

Nice! im looking forward to seeing some shots JSpec!!!! Hurry up, work today is soo boring.

I was looking at the Modo Manfrotto tripods, but were a bit pricey since im just starting off. Instead i opted for an Inca Tripod, 59", fully adjustable, fluid levels and has a shoe for the camera. More than stable enough.

I want to get a Joby Gorrillapod though, i think they will come in really handy especially when taking car shots since you really want to get down close to the floor!

I think our camera has about 1200+shutter clicks!!! we really went crazy over xmas/ny Weve only had it for about 2 weeks haha...

Yeah the manfrotto can get really close to the ground (about 25cm) and you can even flip the camera upside down if you want to lower it into a man hole or something! It's height is about 6 foot and compacts down to a little light package. It's sooo easy to use too as there is only 1 trigger that does everything and 1 latch to put the camera on and pull if off. Easiest thing to use and extremely stable! I only paid $110 for it

EDIT: I'll have to take a pick of my tripod. Pics are uploading to photobucket atm.
