    My VTEC 3rd gen!

I know I have a progress thread but this will get more attention...

I am finally the proud owner of a H22a 3rd gen prelude!
After many many stressfull weeks and many tough decisions it is done, YES I AM VTEC'd YO!

The project started with me aiming for a B18c in my car, well somehow Elee and I were mislead by Mr Dave on the ease of this job and cost so we had to cancell that plan or I had to put in ATLEAST another $5,000! So I had to sell my B18c engine which i had ready and started from scratch.

Well "H22a here I come" I said to Elee over the phone at work. We decided it should be better due to torque and overall power. And thus the painstakin build began.
Got the Engine and Gearbox..... easy. Rest well........ I might let Elee Spill the finer details on what was hard, lets just say LOTS of wiring issues, shifter had to be custom done and powersteering pulleys were custom machined.

Well I flew to sydney to pick up the car tuesday, landed at noon and left sydney at 2pm in my new beast! Took 14.5hrs to drive her to adelaide..... lets just say the drive home was interesting, I rode off an owl, got RBT'd and an R33 Skyline was actually admitting that he was scarred of my car!

Ok, so what got done you ask? (besides the H22 going in)

    Hondata ECU
    New cams
ITR Cobra intake (yeah, same as for the 5th and 4th gens but.... it's in a 3rd gen!)
Well Exeedy heavy duty clutch and fly wheel set up.
    High Flow Cat.
    Dyno tuned.
    Whiteline rear sway bar.
    VTi-R brake upgrade.
    Battery moved to boot.
    I don't think I missed anything.

    Well to start the handling.....
Not much different really. Got the whiteline rear sway bar in and the car feels even better than it was. Now I even installed a front Strut Brace and it's just insane, the car feels like it was designed with this engine in mind.
The mounts from 1funryd (USA) are amazing. I thought he was just hyping up his product to me but god I was impressed. The car feels at idle like a race car but the vibration isn't bad enough that it annoys you even after 14hrs straight driving! The car holds tight, feels mean and just rips up the hills!

Now, the real heart of this install, the Grunt!
WOW. When I really try I can wheel spin from gear changes all the way up to forth!
Ummm on a very rough timed effort with average tyres and 200kg worth of excess weight I managed 0-100 in 7.7sec. don't worry, this didn't brake the law at all.
The new torque of the car impressed an XR6 driver who had a chat to me at a rest stop saying that for a 3rd gen he isn't use to them keepin up to him up steep hills without dropping out of 5th.
Through the hills it was also impressive, stayin in VTEC for atleast 5mins allowed me to stay with a GTi-R pulsar (See marrysville thread) with ease.
Basically the power is worth it and I haven't even touched the headers yet.
And the VTEC hit is very spectacular!

i have some rough pics now but will post the better ones up soon as I get them uploaded from Colin.

Big thanks to everyone that helped.

In The Red/Elee (Knows how to build a NA beast)

1funryd/Shaun the yank (killer mounts people! and they look hot)

    Flipmods/Chris (invaluable advice!)

Brash22/Colin (helped me keep my spirits up when it was looking bleak)

JohhnyWalker (helped me keep my spirits up when it was looking bleak)

These pics are several days old, I have done more to it and will clean the bay soon too.

    where did it all go!

Here it is... wait, something aint right! (yes I know some covers are off in the pic too people ok!)

After 14.5hrs with an exhaust so loud i couldn't tell if it was base or the exhaust I decided i needed a quieter tip. So I got a magnaflow one fitter! Note the sway bar and exhaust through.

Yes, that's brake dust, not paint on the tyres!

Proudly brought to you by ITR!

There's probably someone I haven't thanked yet but remember I'm tired, sleepy and bit out of it so forgive me.
Elee, 1funryd, Flipmods and Colin: If you boys have anything to add go your hardest lads

Great Figures. I need mine tuned now
Lets just say customising wiring to make a H22 work from OBD0 to OBD1 will cost $400 and that is the owners supplying the loom and still putting it in the car. You need alot more custom work apart from that too, power steering, clutch hose pulleys, etc, etc.

    Good stuff.

    BRING BACK THE FORUMS!
