    It's looking Hot Steve!!

Have you done a test fitment of the bonnet with the engine in?

It probably won't be an issue but I'm just wondering how close the turbo manifold is going to get to it?

Nah I havent done a test fit. Not too worried though, the oem dipstick sits up higher than the manifold!

You've got hoodliner under there too don't ya Steve? I'm also wondering how close the manifold will get to your hood. Can anyone smell paint baking?

Manifold is ceramic coated, high temp painted, header wrapped.
Turbo is high temp painted, turbo beanied.
Dump pipe is high temp painted, header wrapped.

If it gets hot after that I'll be so mad I'll cut a hole in the hood!

All that just keeps the heat IN or keeps it looking good after it gets hot. Hope ya got ya nibbler ready dude....LOL

The worst part is how any rubber under the bonnet perishes so quick with all the extra heat.

of course it keeps the heat IN, thats the point, it's kept in the exhaust and not radiated out

none of my rubber is perished, and i have none of that good gear keeping my heat in, except for a little ceramic paint on the manifold and dump pipe

Thats the whole point mate. Keep the heat IN the pipes and not spreading all over my enginebay. Nibbler safely tucked away.

I doubt any rubber will perish. And I'm running all braided lines so I wont have a problem there.

Naturally i'm not talking about your engine bays, You obviously MAINTAIN your engines.
I was actually thinking about when my brother was looking at 300zx's. Hard to find a factory turbo over 8 or 10 years old that itsn't suffering from heat induced under bonnet hassels.

I just know i'm going to vent my bay once I get a turbo on there. No harm in learning from their mistakes.

    The good news:
I'm getting the enginebay painted the weekend after next...

    The bad news:
I have to get my arse into gear and really get into sanding this thing!

I've also picked up the bolts from the engineshop guy. So Clutch Pressure plate can now be bolted in.

How much more have you got to do before it's paint-worthy Steve?

I have to do a whole lotta sanding, and there's 2 big holes I need to fill still.

Yeah I'll be doing the priming - to an extent. I want to prime with a filler/primer then use sprayputty to get it all super smooth.

Then the paint guy will use a 2pack primer to make it even smoother (and apparently promote further gloss) before painting it.

I've been using a filler / primer which fills all the little scratch marks from the heavy sandpaper and use of a flapdisc on the grinder. You'll also notice I filled the big holes in the enginebay with some metal sheet.

I'm starting to get really excited about it being all one colour again! And boy is it gonna look good!
