Ian's been a huge help throughout - especially being the devil sitting on my shoulder saying "do it already! you know you want to!"

Oh trust me the moust sander is getting a huge workout. Just seems the trusty sanding block and paper is featuring in all my pics

I can't wait til the enginebay's got some paint on her again. I'll be over the moon with the results I'm sure.

Don't worry - there will be plenty more updates coming along - more new parts, and more enginebay shaving.

^^ Very poignant with your signature immediately following Pat!

So Ian and I did some work last night until we were ground to a halt by missing bolts from my engine rebuilder - gonna swing round on Monday and see if he still has them

We're going to test fit the engine into the enginebay. Make any adjustments to the bodywork thats required (I'm confident there will be none) and attempt mocking up where the intercooler piping will route.

Then pull the motor to get the enginebay sprayed

    Here's the pics:

And the Exedy HD cushion button clutch...

Does the flywheel have the timing marks?
If not, then now is a good time to do it.

^^^ it does have the timing marks, and we even put a little drop of paint in them to make them more visible.

just a forewaring, noob question coming up!

why are there timing marks on the flywheel? my understanding is that its connected directly to the crankshaft (is that even right? lol). so is it to align tdc for putting the timing belt on to make sure the cams are in the right sequence? hope that makes sense....

i always assumed that when doing the timing belt, you mark the spot on the cam gears, but dont really have to worry about the lower half since it basically wont shift when you pull the timing belt off? then you just make sure the cams gears line up with the marks when you put the new belt on?

Spot on. You need to get TDC on the crank and cams to set the belt. Looks like the boost state has it well covered.

SAKI has this combo on his 3g. I think he's over it. It's only for the hardcore.

Its not just a button clutch. Its a Cushion Button Clutch (as you can see on the box.) The clutch is quite different to a standard button clutch as it has a flex plate in the middle of it to allow more slippage.

It means its not quite an on-off clutch.

I dont think the car will be running by next week lol! But you're welcome round again mate. Anytime.

Timing marks are important when setting ignition timing with a timing light...

Getting TDC to set the belts you can use the lower timing belt gear markings as well as cam gear markings.

The cushion button is only for the softcore like me who didnt want a left leg the size of hee-man... apparently this clutch behaves considerably more like a standard clutch. But can handle a lot more power.
