Any bodyshop you go to will use filler to smooth a repair a dented car or a after welding a new panel for a rust hole etc.

So I guess if it cracks then I live with it...

Yeah no idea where I got the pic anymore was a PP car or I found it in the 5thgen porn thread.

Bog should only crack from engine vibration and chassis twist, the paint should have some elastic tolerance the cater for the majority of the movement.

LOL nah I'd prefer to see him turbo it, but in saying that can those headers really be for N/A in the pic I provided? surely not with all those twists... not saying it couldn't work but sure does look like allot more hard work for nothing.

Those headers are NA. The extra twists are to make the 4 runners longer...
It will give you more high end power.

Tuned length too, but I did think along those lines for a brief moment
The path of Honda is beset on all sides by the iniquities of Mazda and the tyranny of Nissan. Blessed is the Honda owner who in the name of handling and performance shepherds his Honda through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his Honda's keeper and the finder of lost kilowatts. And I will strike down upon thee with great acceleration and furious VTEC those who attempt to overtake and destroy my Hondas. And you will know my name is PRELUDE when I lay my VTEC upon thee.

i was referring to the engine bay where you will see alot of stress on the metal in those areas, naturally from vibrations and such. the engine bay of that hot rod looks crap now because of all the tiny bits that were filled in have rattled and cracked. But that thing was built like a mofo and put down some serious ponies so that might have something to do with it.

^ yeah I realise that. However I've welded all the areas of stress to minimise the movement before applying filler.

The only other option to using filler is to start doing some lead work - and lets face it, no one in the industry uses it anymore... except some really old school muscle/hotrodding guys.

I found the website for that 5th gen posted above, thought i'd mention it here...

Found the guy on Prelude Power. He claims to have not used any bodyfiller but then later talks about how it wasnt smooth enough so they bodyfilled it. lol.

the fill shouldn't move or crack if the surface is well etched. Looked like you did a perfect job to me, for what thats worth. The only way it could have been better if you ask me is if you used vinylester resin and whacka. But that would be a total bitch to sand. Anyhow, thats just the boat builder comin out in me.

Ok here's some photos of what I was up to all weekend and tonight... again, big thanks to that Ian guy for lending me the engine crane once again, and for the elbow grease whilst this painful process of sanding takes place.

The driver's side wheel well and shock tower are completely smooth now.

I then got around to painting the spark plug cover. It will get a few coats of clear before I'm completely done.

And I started work tonight on the passenger frame rail area...

    Enjoy.

What a tedious job! Well worth it if you do a good wire tuck though. Look forward to seeing it all glossy and smooth with the paint on

Yeah its tough because its so tempting to slap on huge amounts of filler and sand it smooth but I want to keep it as a very thin layer so that its just enough to make it smooth but not ruin that "factory" stamped out metal look.

I also want to keep it thin so that it reduces the likelyhood of cracking.

I cant wait til primer/paint is applied. Its gonna look sickening...
As Ian said (when I was about to give up yesterday) "It'll be worth it in the end man..."

I hope the sore / dry / cracking fingers and skin is worth it! haha...
