I've actually got the head bolted on already. Pics coming soon. I will be installing the cams/etc and intake/exhaust manifolds in the coming nights.

Its not really that hard. Just follow the instructions and try not to do anything stupid!

I'm trying to keep it as organised as possible (hence updating the first post with an index). The head (as seen in previous posts) is not stock either .

Its funny, what started out as a fairly "mild" build - turned into forged internals and me spending a lot more money! Ahh well, we all have hobbies. This is mine!

Sure do care! I've just been reading it and learning. I need to learn for when I build mine My hardest thing is choosing the right components to match each other....I have a LOT of reading to do...

As promised, pictures of the head installed. Unfortunately didnt take a picture of the headgasket installed, but there's only ONE way it goes on that is correct. Took me 3 goes to work it out!

On to the pics of the head

And then I remembered I had these bad boys stashed in the bedroom

I did some more work on the car last night.
Here's my intake manifold with epoxy blocked off exhaust gas recirculation... (EGR) blocked it off at the source.

Also stopping heat to the intake manifold is the Hondata intake manifold gasket.

A test of the braided lines - this stuff is pretty damn flexible for braided line..

Bolted up the turbo manifold. What a pain to do up the top bolts. It barely clears the head.

Installed the VTEC solenoid/oil press sensor.

And the new cam gears got installed

    probably a n00b question BUT....
Whats the point of those after market cam gears? Do they have any benefit performance wise?

^^i think it allows you to change the timing more/easily?

awesome pics! i dont think i've actually seen a vtec motor with the rocker cover gasket off before

are those rails above each of the cam shafts oil squirters?

It lets you adjust the timing of each individual cam. You can advance just the intake cam timing if you wanted to (for example).

It will have benefit in performance because they will allow me to dial out the "valve overlap" in order to keep boost pressure in the head longer. Thats the theory anyway.

They are also lighter, and look pretty sweet

The rails above the camshafts squirt oil down onto the cams to keep them lubricated.

This is different to the block "oil squirters" which I photographed in previous posts which aim oil up into the pistons for cooling/lubrication.

Maybe you should pull your valve cover off some time? Its only about 8 bolts and remove a couple of hoses

When we were playing around with my $60 3rd gen, I decided to start the motor up with the valve cover off to see what it was like. You get a nice insight into how the oiling of the head works... at least for a couple of seconds til oil sprays out over your enginebay and you have to shut it off!

haha yes i should. it didnt even occur to me that i haven't taken it off yet till now! i've had the rocker cover off on my third gen, but it didn't have those rails (not that I remember)... and the only motor i've taken apart and put back together was one out of an oldschool datsun for year 10 mechanics lol

    cheers for the info!
