Unfortunately that manifold wont clear my A/C Rich - otherwise I'd be all over it.

On another note - I just purchased a turbo.

Speaking of clean engine bays... here's a really nice clean one... and what happens when you get an exhaust leak.

Basically - there was no cracks in the manifold at all. The turbo had slowly unbolted itself from the manifold. In doing so the gasket split in half and let exhaust all over my enginebay. Not fun. On the plus side, someone may score a nice cheap turbo setup while I go for an all out upgrade.

    Here's the gasket:

And here's the turbo setup for sale:

I will be asking around $600 for the setup. Pretty much you'll get everything pictured here. Turbo / Manifold / Wastegate (unsure if working properly) / Dump Pipe (no cat) / Turbo Baggie / Oil Return Pipe
Everything pictured here will bolt straight up to a H22 and will get you most of the way to a turbo prelude!

Anyway thats all for today - bigger and better things to come

How does a turbo slowly unbolt it's self from a manifold....?
And where did it get a spanner from...?

I think it was partially installation error. Partially heat & vibration.

Either way, expensive mistake and I'm over it - moving on.

    Wow, that's nasty steve

Those bloody impossible to get at turbo bolts coming back to haunt you. Hope the new manifold has more sensible access to them.

That's too bad, had that issue on my life for years till I figured out the weight of the Turbo and vibration was the cause as you mentioned, a metal bracket from the bottom of the Turbo to the engine/engine mount sorted it out as it reduced vibration dramatically. Hope this helps.

    BRING BACK THE FORUMS!

Yep, with my log style manifold and the longish adapter. I found the weight of the turbo hanging off it caused the bolts to come loose. Checked after driving 20km one morning and the 3 of the bolts you could take off with your hand. I used a bit of thread sealer/locker on the bolts, haven't had a problem since.

Yeah the new manifold will be far more sensible - just wait until you see progress on that (coming soon).

I will definately be considering a place to mount a bracket to support the turbo.

The next step is to hit the engine/bay with some hardcore soap and scrub til she's clean again.

with all the time and effort you put into that engine bay, it must be heart breaking to see it like that...!
