hi guys im new to prelude aus..
my 5th gen h22a4 dohc vtec engine has done just over 90000K'z and im wonder what type oil do i use...
i changed oil recently to 10-50w and it seems to be burning it.. i always drive around 4000 - 5500rpm..
maybe i shoudl use a thicker oil??
    please give me some suggestions
    thanks guys!

I would not use any oil thicker than 10-30w.
There are special oils for high miliage engines desigeend to reduce oil consumption.
Here is a link to one of them.

don't go thicker than u already are.

try a 10w40 and see if it burns. shouldnt' be using that thick on an engine with under 100k's , unless ur masking up some bad noises coming from the engine :S lol

    wait, what?

the thicker the oil, the less chance of the car burning it.

5-30W is a thin oil designed for fast precise engines, eg. turbos etc which need fast and instant lubrication from the moment you turn the key.

the greter the number the thicker the oil.

id say you have a leak of fried rings, the oil you use shouldn't make a massive difference to your oil consumption. I use a 10-50W, doesn't use the slightest bit of it.

what i'm saying is, don't go thicker than he already is using. it will only be masking the problem.

for an engine of his age, something like a 10w40 is only required, unless there is something wrong.

    in other words expensive

any oil that is changed reguraly will do

so Castrol, Pennzoil, Pennrite etc will all do, use 10-50W and change on a regulat basis.

guys when selecting oil, refer to your manual and base your choice on the climate you live in.

it sounds like you have bigger issues if you are running 10w50 and losing oil.
