Finally tuned by Dr Drift :)

Today I finally got my car down to Dr Drift to get my car tuned after the additon of a new intake, header and Apexi AFC NEO.

I've had 3 dyno runs in the past and netted 102kw, 104kw and 106kw the later 2 dyno runs being on Dr Drifts dyno. The only mods at this time were a Simota CAI with Simota Pod filter.

I've recently given the Simota CAI the boot and replaced it with a new AEM v2 Intake. I've also fitted a Xforce header.

Here the mods and some other factors listed which can affect the dyno figures and performance:

    - AEM v2 Intake
    - Xforce Header
    - Apexi AFC NEO
    - Vortex 98 fuel
    - 17 degrees static ignition timing (set prior to dyno run) - +2 degrees over stock
    - 17" wheels
    - 180,000 kms
    - 0W-40 Castrol Edge Full Synthetic

I was very happy with the baseline figure of 116.0KW. There's no doubt I could feel gains after installing the AEM v2 and Xforce header.

My final result was quite impressive, putting down 123.9KW with good gains in torque and power right across the rev range.

All up these mods, fitting and tuning has cost me only $1460 so bang for buck is very good. This is cheaper than the cost of landing an SMSP header in Australia ...sorry JB had to throw that one in! lol

Here are the dyno plots. I've included my run from 2006 as a comparison as it was run on the same dyno.

    Sounds great! Question though:
What is an Apexi AFC NEO? Is that what you tune it with?
Can you tune your car with just the standard ECU? I'm just unsure on how the tuning process is done.

Yes, The Apexi AFC NEO is a piggy back air flow controller. It intercepts the MAP signals before they reach the ecu and the tuner can modify the signal being sent to the ecu allowing for adding/reducing fuel at various rpm increments.

I paid $320 AUS delivered from the US. It then cost me $250 to have Dr Drift fit and dyno tune using it.

As the others have said, Very nice outcome, the curve looks great. Thats a very good gain for just intake and headers, standard exhaust I gather?

Yep - stock exhaust. I'll look at a good aftermarket exhaust system early next year.

That torque curve looks good, bet the car feels different to drive now. Ah, the wonders of VTEC, a nice flat torque spread right through the rev range.

Steve, I'd like to suggest that with an AFR in the mid 13:1 range up top, you should consider going to a one step colder plug. NGK part number ZFR7F-11. Standard is ZFR6F-11. It'll help keep combustion cylinder temperatures down (by removing an additional 70deg C from the chamber). Leaner afr = higher combustion cylinder temperatures.

    wow!

123kwatfw, that is a great result. alot of vtirs with i/h/e seem to only get the 110kw mark. (which id be happy with).

THis is just more incentive to get my Xforce header on, and get that neo shipped down. Take some pics of the neo installed inside....
