depends what you want them for.
if you want them on when the doors open the hook them up to the certacy light in the door.
if you want them on when the lights are on hook them up to the tail light fuse.
if you want them on when you want them on hook them up direct to the batter with a switch and a relay.
its up to you...but i cant see the point of the bootlight.

i got mine hooked up to the tail light fuse so as soon as the tail lights come on the neons come on.
the ones in the foot well, the ones on either side of the shifter and the one in the guage cluster.

the ones on my sub box are hooked up to the boot light though.
cause you can only see them when the boots open.
yea i only wanted them on when the boot was open...

Yeah it was all DIY down to designing and making the board to drive them. I made some additional outputs so I could put more in other parts of the car later.

writeup? hehe.. I didn't think what I did was "write up worthy" and it requires the board that I made. I think the way I did it was maybe a bit overcomplicated cause I wanted the led arrays to fade. Anyway the idea was to sense the interior light. I tapped in under the dash on the passenger side.

the black/white wire sits at 12VDC while the doors are closed and pulls low when either door opens. my board turns the leds on when the black/white wire is low and when it goes high it waits 2 secs and fades the leds out.

The board is powered by the radio 12v supply. I knocked it up pretty quickly using vero board, put it in a box and hid it behind the center console.

It wasn't the easiest way to do it. It was really just for a bit of fun and to make something cool for my lude so the time it took and cost didn't really matter. Anyway I'm pretty happy with it

i am trying to do something similar atm.... i'm trying to plan it out a bit before i get cutting wires etc... with running a 16gauge from the battery what type of relay should i use? dse have a few... and if i jack it of the ciggy lighter, but in parallel to the ciggy lighter, do i still need a relay? my plan atm is to wire in parallel to the ciggy lighter a multiadapter thing for the ciggy lighter and plug 2 led arrays and one neon rope into it... opinions and advice please! thank you in advance!

Top stuff for making your own design mate!!

For us lazy people, there is a kit that Jaycar sell that you can whip up pretty quickly for the dimmer function.

    tidy work man!

I think the easiest thing is to run a relay off the ciggy lighter, and then you can have as many units running off the triggered 12v line as you'd like. Put a fuse in line though for safety.

    ^^
Dse and Jaycar only have a few relays to choose from. All you need is a 12VDC relay (coil voltage). The contact ratings of any of the relays they have will well exceed your neons/leds etc.. and yeah an inline fuse is always a good idea.

Yeh they are usually called "horn relays" (well the one you want). they will have either 4 or 5 prongs. If there are 5 prongs, the centre one isnt used.

    Basically:
the "30" prong is your +12v source line
the "87" prong is your output line, or the line to go to + terminals on your accessories you want to power (neons or whatever)
the "86" prong is your signal line, in our case it is the ciggy lighter
and the "85" prong is grounding line (-)

here's a basic setup for seperate horns running from a relay.

sweet... yeah like i said there were only like 3 different ones but i was stil unsure.. and so was the person there... i'll do it sometime this week hopefully! and i think everything i'm plugging into the multiadaper thingo (there must be a better name but i cant think of it lol) is already fused so shouldn't be a prob... might to it anyway tho.
